Strawberry Shortcake Cake

Strawberry Shortcake...Remember those days?
Here's my version of the Strawberry Shortcake Cake. Its based off of the updated series that comes on the cable channel Hub World.

First, before covering the baked cake in fondant I made a dollsized Strawberry Shortcake as the topper.Strawberry Shortcake was made out of fondant and gumpaste. This is her before we put her on the cake. She was molded ontop of a cake dummy and dried before she was added to the finished cake.

After the doll dried overnight I iced and covered the cake in fondant. I chose green and pink fondant because those were her primary colors and covered half the cake in pink fondant at the base and the top half in hanging green fondant. The giant strawberry was made out of fondant and rice krispy treats. The oversized flower was made out of gumpaste. Smaller flowers and leaves were made out of gumpaste and used to trim the cake.

This is how the cake looked before the words were added.

This is the final cake

Mickey Mouse Cake

This cake was fairly easy to make. The hardest part however, was tinting the icing black....That was a headache!

The cake was chocolate with buttercream frosting. Fondant was used for the stars placed around the board.

Easter Basket Cake, STEP BY STEP

Here it is just in time for the holidays, an edible Easter Basket. The Basket Cake is an oval shaped cake that's covered in a buttercream basket weave design and decorated with fondant and royal icing.

Below I have a step by step view as to what goes into the process of making and designing a basket weave cake.

STEP 1. This is the basket weave. A single tip is used throughout the process to get the desired basket look. You can use whatever tip you like, but for this cake I used a regular star tip. As a warning, your hands will be tired trying to pull this cake off.

STEP2. For this particular design, I used another tip to get the "grass" effect. This was one of the easier decorating techniques used on this cake.

STEP 3. Next, the royal icing rabbit and eggs were added. When working with royal icing, it's best to make the decorations a day or two ahead of time inorder to give the icing time to harden. If you don't you'll just have a basketcase full of broken eggs and tail less bunnies.

STEP 4. Finally, a fondant handle and some royal icing flowers are added. As you can see, completed it looks like a real Easter basket.

This completes the step by step viewing of the Basket Cake. Hopefully, now you'll make or order one for the holidays .

Car Cake

This is the Car Cake. It's no particular car in mind, just a simple childrens cake for a Birthday party.
Below are before and after pictures of the making.

frosted cut out

The cake was first a chocolate and strawberry filled sheet cake. It was carved into the shape of a car and then it was iced with vanilla buttercream frosting. Afterwards, it was covered with blue fondant and decorated with fondant cut outs.

Dora the Explorer

The cake is vanilla with neopolitan icecream filling while the icing is orange tinted buttercream. Dora and her star friends were handmade out of fondant.
